Cunoscuta si sub denumirea de Pui Kung Pao, aceasta mancare este originara din Sichuan si poarta numele unui guvernator al acestei provincii, din perioada dinastiei Qin. Din cauza originii sale, legate de perioada imperiala, in timpul revolutiei culturale gatitul ei a fost interzis; astazi insa a revenit puternic si este una dintre retetele prezente practic in oferta oricarui restaurant chinezesc. Gustul ei este destul de iute, mai ales daca se gateste cu cantitatea maxima de ardei. Este excelenta insotita de orez alb cu bob lung, fiert.
